The Istanbul Biennial has released the full roster of artists participating in its 16th edition. The Biennial will feature exhibits—including 38 new commissions—by 57 artists and collectives from 26 countries, including Turkey, Iran, South Korea, Japan, and Thailand. Slated to open on September 14, the Biennial will take place across three sites: the Istanbul Shipyards, the Pera Museum, and Büyükada Island.

Titled “The Seventh Continent” in reference to the colloquial name of the seven-million-ton mound of plastic floating in the Pacific Ocean, the exhibition, curated by art scholar and Montpellier Contemporain director Nicolas Bourriaud, will bring together different perspectives on the effects of the Anthropocene and the interconnectedness of nature and culture.
