Beijing-based artist Xiao Lu is known for her provocative performances, which allude to themes of both personal and political entrapment and liberation. Confident and spontaneous, the artist often incorporates elements of unexpectedness and risk in her works. ArtAsiaPacific met with Xiao on the occasion of her first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, at 10 Chancery Lane Gallery, where she debuted her new performance, Skew (2019), created especially for the city. In this interview, Xiao speaks about her inspiration and artistic process, what Hong Kong means to her, and the trajectory of her three-decade-long career.
